Question:

I have a terrain map, how can I make a grayscale shaded relief map?

Answer:

You can remove the information from three of the four Color Channels
in the Photoshop file to leave just a grayscale image.

   • Open the Photoshop file and view the Channels Palette.

   • Select the Cyan Channel (the channel is highlighted in the palette
     and is he only one visible in the image)

   • Choose menu option Select > All and then delete
     (The channel listing remains but is now empty.)

   • Repeat for Magenta and Yellow Channels

   • Choose menu option File > Save
