Question:
I am trying to open one of your Adobe Illustrator 8/Photoshop relief maps with Illustrator for Windows. The map is not working right (relief does not display/Illustrator crashes.) What should I do? Answer: These maps will work properly in Illustrator 10 or CS for Windows. If you have access to one of those versions but are using a previous release of Illustrator, you should use the newer version. If your map opens but you do not see the relief image behind the other map features, the relief may be drawing out of alignment with the rest of the map. Reduce the magnification until you can see the entire artboard of the file. If you find the relief image, you can drag it into alignment with the rest of the map. If Illustrator crashes when trying to open a relief map, convert the Photoshop file to a TIF and link the new TIF image to your Illustrator file. You will need to open the Photoshop file and save it as a TIF, remove the Photoshop from it's location in the folder and create a new link between the Illustrator file and the new TIF version of the relief image. 1. Open the Photoshop (.psd) file and choose File > Save As. Select the TIF format and save the file to the folder with the original Photoshop and Illustrator files. Then discard the Photoshop file. You must remove the Photoshop file from it's location so that the link to it from the Illustrator file is broken.
2. Open the Adobe Illustrator file. You will receive an error reading "Could not find the linked file '[mapname].psd'. Replace it with another file?" Choose 'No'.
3. The file will open without the relief background image. In the Links Palette, highlight the existing link and click the "Replace Link" button.
4. Select the Tif file you created. Make sure you have clicked on the "Link" checkbox in the "Place" dailog box so that you are linking to the external .TIF file.
5. The relief image will appear in the Adobe Illustrator file. Choose menu option File > Save.
